# Chart catalogue

The closed set of charts WerkOS draws, each with the question it answers and its limit.

* Kind: data
* Page: https://design.werklist.com/data/chart-catalogue
* Version: 2.1.2

## When to use it

* Choosing a chart from the question it has to answer

## When not to use it

* A chart that is not in the catalogue: WerkOS does not draw it

## Rules

* Parts of a whole: at most 5 named parts, the rest gathered as a remainder in slate
* Small multiples: columns, trends, donuts, choropleths, dot plots or banded columns, repeated small, 3 across at full width, on one shared scale with one key. Past 9 panels, use a table with a sparkline column
* Not drawn: a pie, a donut with more than 5 parts, a second vertical axis, radar charts, treemaps, packed circles, word clouds, 3D, an area that is neither a running total nor a composition, bars that do not start at zero, a smoothed line through fewer than 4 points, a log scale

## Variants

* Stat tile: The one number a view exists for. Without a figure, the tile says why
* Ranked bars: How large a value is against its peers. Up to 12 rows
* Country bars: Which countries lead, with a flag before each name. Up to 12 rows
* Dot plot: One score on a fixed scale, such as 0 to 100, across many subjects
* Dumbbell: A low and a high for each subject. Up to 20 rows
* Peer band strip: Whether a value is normal for its region and income band
* Annual banded columns: A count per year, observed and forecast, with a range. The figures above the columns are running totals
* Columns over time: A yearly or monthly count, observed years only
* Trend with forecast band: A stock or a rate, its history and its outlook. Four points or more
* Slope: Change between two years for many subjects. Up to 24 subjects
* Mirrored flow: Arrivals against departures per year, on one shared scale
* Event timeline: Policy decisions over time, each opening, closing or neutral. Up to 40 events
* Inline sparkline: The shape of one series inside a table cell, with no text and no axis
* Composition bar: What a total is made of. 5 named parts and a remainder
* Donut: One share, or up to 5 parts
* Composition over time: The mix of a total, year by year. 5 named parts and a remainder
* Score matrix: Several scores for several countries. Up to 12 rows and 8 columns
* Ranked scatter: Which markets rank high on priority and are easy to enter. Up to 40 subjects, each rank with its interval
* Corridor flow: Who supplies whom, and how much
* Choropleth: How open each country is, on one score
* Bubble map: Where volumes concentrate
